Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 with Snapdragon 615 CPU coming in 2015 with $160 price tag

The Redmi Note 2 could precede the Mi 5 as far as a market launch is concerned.

The Mi 5 might be the smartphone from Xiaomi to look forward to next year, given it will be the only flagship device the popular Chinese manufacturer will likely launch in 2015. However, a new leak has revealed that Xiaomi is also prepping up the Redmi Note 2 for launch in the coming month, with an announcement reportedly happening on January 15th.

The Redmi Note 2 is expected to come with a $160 price tag, or even $140, which would make it an amazing package. That’s because it’s expected to feature a 5.5-inch Full HD LCD display, a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615/MediaTek MT6752 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB of internal storage, and a 3,100mAh battery, which is a lot of hardware for a very low price. As far as the software is concerned, the phone is expected to be powered by Android 4.4 KitKat with the MIUI 6 user interface on top.

Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed anything, but with the success its existing devices have found in recent months, the company will likely want to take advantage of the hype and introduce upgraded devices as soon as possible. As a refresher, Xiaomi is also preparing the launch a successor to the Redmi 1s early next month, so it looks like January could be a very hectic month for the disruptive manufacturer.
