Turns out the Xiaomi Mi Mix Nano images that were leaked online recently may have been fake. Xiaomi marketing director Zang Zhiyuan made a post on Weibo earlier today claiming “there’s no such product as Xiaomi Mi Mix Nano”.
While we certainly have no hopes of seeing a smaller Mi Mix variant launch anytime soon, there could still be a possibility that Zhiyuan might only have been referring to the name “Mi Mix Nano” and not the device itself. Since the leak on Weibo suggested the Mi Mi Nano would be made official next month, we may still see a smaller Mi Mix variant go official in that case.
The smaller Mi Mix Nano was tipped to feature a smaller 5.5-inch display with the same bezel-free design of its bigger sibling. It was expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core SoC under the hood, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in memory. Rest of the smartphone’s spec-sheet was likely to be similar to its 6.4” sibling.
A smaller Mi Mix would certainly have been well-received by consumers, as the 6.4” display size of the Mi Mix is a bit too big for many, despite the fact that in terms of dimensions the Mi Mix happens to be around the same size as most phablets with a 6-inch display. We can still hope that Xiaomi might consider lanching a smaller device with a similar “91%” screen-to-body ratio towards the end of next year with updated specs.
