Windows Phone 8 smartphones won’t be updated to Windows 10 until next year

Windows 10 Mobile

Bad news for owners of Windows Phone 8.x smartphones. Microsoft now expects to begin updating older Windows Phone handsets to Windows 10 Mobile only by next year.

The Redmond based company had earlier planned to begin updating Windows Phone 8.1 handsets to Windows 10 Mobile before the end of the year. According to an updated statement released by Microsoft, Windows Phone handsets are now expected to start receiving the Windows 10 Mobile OTA update starting early 2016. The exact reason behind the delay has not been specified by Microsoft.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has still not released a list of handsets that are slated to receive the Windows 10 Mobile update. So users will need to wait until early next year to find out if their Windows 8.x handset is eligible for the Windows 10 Mobile update or not.
