Western Digital today announced the addition of a new 6TB model to its WD Black performance hard drive lineup. The 3.5-inch 7200 RPM hard drive is being targeted at gamers and professionals who require high storage space.
Like other hard drives in the WD Black line, the new 6TB model also combines a 7200 RPM speed, 128MB cache, dual stage actuator technology, SATA 6 Gb/s interface, and an integrated dual processor that delivers ‘ultimate performance in a maximum-capacity drive’.
WD claims the new 6TB hard disk is 29% faster than its previous 4TB WD Black model in maximum data rate throughput and 10% faster in the PCMark Vantage system performance benchmark.
The WD Black 6TB hard drive is now available in select markets through WD distributors and resellers. In the US, the drive has been priced at $294. A 5TB model is also being offered, priced at $264. Both models come with a five-year limited warranty from Western Digital.
