‘Warcraft’ movie heading to theaters December 18, 2015

Tweet confirms film in production, filming set to begin in January.

Warcraft Movie

A tweet from the official World of Warcraft twitter account mentions that the Warcraft movie will be released on December 18, 2015.

The movie will be based on Activision Blizzard’s Warcraft universe, and will not be limited to World of Warcraft. The movie is being directed by Duncan Jones, who directed critically acclaimed movies like Moon and Source Code. He will also be involved in writing the movie, along with Charles Leavitt. An exclusive trailer for the movie was showcased at this year’s Comic-Con. Colin Farrell is allegedly being considered for the leading role.

Filming begins January 13, 2014 and the movie will be made by Legendary Pictures and distributed via Universal Pictures. Movies based on video games like Hitman and Max Payne have not done well at the box office, although the Warcraft movie could do better thanks to the combined talent of Jones/Leavitt. Other notable video game movies set to launch in 2015 include Assassin’s Creed.
