VLC for iOS will return to iTunes later this year

The popular media player has been pulled twice already from the App Store.

VLC is one of the most widely used media players out there. It supports almost all media platforms and happens to be available on almost every major mobile and desktop platform. It landed on iOS a couple of years back only to have it pulled.

In 2013 VLC once again found its way to the iTunes App Store. The return was much awaited and was greeted with much fanfare by fans of the VLC community, but it didn’t take long for bad luck to strike once again. The developers pulled the app shortly after iOS 8 was released in September 2014, a move that didn’t go down quite well with the community.

There’s good news now for those who have been waiting for VLC to make a comeback on iOS. It has been confirmed by Felix Paul Kuehne, the lead developer, that the app will once again make its way to the App Store. He made this announcement on the official VLC forums and revealed that the updated application has been submitted to Apple for approval.

Once the app is approved by Apple it will be listed in the App Store for hundreds and millions of iOS device owners to download. Once the iTunes Connect holiday shutdown gets done with it shouldn’t take long for Apple to approve the app. We might very well see a release later this month, until then, waiting is the only option.
