Vivo announces X9 and X9 Plus with 20MP+ 8MP dual selfie cameras


Shortly after announcing the selfie-focused V5 mid-range smartphone recently, vivo has launched two new smartphones that could be the best selfie-focused smartphones on the market. The new vivo X9 and X9 Plus feature a dual-camera setup on the front, featuring a primary 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor and a secondary 8MP sensor. Both the cameras on the front have been paired with an f/2.0 aperture lens. The secondary 8MP sensor on the front is used for depth sensing and also enables various effects when taking selfies.

The X9 features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2GHz. In terms of memory, the smartphone packs 4GB of RAM and is going to be available in 64GB and 128GB variants. At the back, the X9 sports a 16MP snapper with phase detection autofocus, f/2.0 aperture lens, and an LED flash. It also packs a 3050mAh capacity battery inside to keep the lights on.

The vivo X9 Plus features a larger 5.88-inch Super AMOLED display with the same 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution. Powering the smartphone is the more powerful Snapdragon 653 octa-core chipset, which has been paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. The battery inside is larger than its smaller sibling, rated at 4080mAh.


Both the X9 and X9 Plus run on the FuntouchOS 3.0, based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. For now, vivo has only announced pricing and availability info for the X9. The smartphone has been priced at RMB 2798 (S$577) for the 64GB variant and RMB 2998 (S$618) for the 128GB variant.
