Virtual Reality experiences to escape the Trump Presidency

In case you haven’t heard, Donald Trump is now the president-elect of the United States. Some of you across the world are having a hard time accepting this fact, but unless the unthinkable happens, this is the reality. It’s a good thing then that we now have a real alternative. Now is the time to invest in a Virtual Reality Headset and escape into a more pleasing reality. Here are some of the best options for the next four years of having your head in the sand.

High Fidelity (Oculus Rift, HTC Vive)

Currently only available in Steam Early Access, this is a VR social platform. Think Second Life (it was created by someone who worked on it), only with a full VR setup. Now, this is not the only Social VR platform in development, as Facebook has been working hard on something similar. However, an enticing element is that this experience is free, and the full experience will be as well. It even supports cross-platform play so that you can play with absolutely everyone. So if you want to live in another, a more kind reality where you don’t have to think about Trump, this might be the one for you.

Minecraft VR (Just about every VR platform)

Minecraft is one of those crazy success stories that happens now and then. It is single-handedly responsible for making game creator Notch a millionaire. It has gone from a PC exclusive to a title you can find on virtually any device that holds an electric current. Now, with the push of VR, the same can be said for both PC, Console and Mobile headsets. The core appeal remains the same: you can shape the world however you please. Build your own paradise island, with towering heights and beautiful gardens, and feel like you’re really in a blocky version of heaven.

Dear Esther (Oculus Rift)

This was a title that you either thought was a beautiful meditation on life and love or a waste of time. However, because VR is still having some difficulty regarding interaction (unless it’s on the HTC Vive), walking simulators would be a good fit for VR. Yes, it is a very bleak atmosphere. Sometimes, however, catharsis doesn’t have to be positive. If you need a chance to collect your thoughts while listening to poetry, this might be for you. Furthermore, you might be more willing to live in a world where Trump is the president of the United States after this game.

Shooting Showdown 2 (Samsung Gear VR)

Time to look at some pure cathartic release, and what better than a shooter? There are plenty of VR shooting galleries out there, some good, some not so good. Shooting Showdown 2 has made the list because its available on the Samsung Gear VR, which makes it much more accessible. The controls are simple: you look at a target, then press the button to shoot. It’s simple, dumb and just what you need to relieve stress. More than anything else, this will probably be worth the purchase of the Gear VR.
