ViewQwest’s New 4K TV box Serves as an Android Media Player and Free-to-Air TV Box

Expanding its effort beyond being an internet service provider, ViewQwest has launched its latest integrated TV box and Android media player, the VQTV5. This device lets users own a two-in-one option of consuming free-to-air channels in HD whilst at the same time, streaming 4K content through the in-built Android media player.

The VQTV5 comes armed with a built-in digital TV tuner (DVB-T2), which allows the device to access local free-to-air HD channels if you hook itto a compatible TV antenna. This is of particular importance to users here in Singapore since analogue signals will be deactivated by the end of 2017. With your new VQTV5, you can now not only stream content on the integrated media player, but also continue to access local TV channels.

The Android media player side of the VQTV5 is pre-loaded with more than 20 video-streaming apps such as Netflix, Hulu, and PPTV. Compared to its predecessor, there have been some notable upgrades. They include the support for ultra-high-definition 4K streaming after a software update from Android 4.4.1 to Android 5.1.1. Its internal storage has also doubled from 8GB to 16GB. This new media player also streams faster and supports more types of video apps.

Of course, the internet service provider stays true to its root, giving the VQTV5 capabilities to “smart-monitor” the health of the consumer’s Internet and Wi-Fi network connectivity.

This new technology is able to gather relevant network-related data which could help highlighs possible network issues to ViewQwest’s engineering team, thus, allowing ViewQwest to proactively alert and advise customers on how to improve their Wi-Fi experience.

To improve customer experience, there will be an upgraded remote control that is dubbed the “air-mouse”, giving users the capability to wave the remote like a magic wand to swiftly move the cursor around the screen, compared to the old remote control where users had to use manual buttons to slowly move across the screen.

The new VQTV5 is priced at S$188 for new and those who subscribe to ViewQwest’s 2-year fibre broadband service. Those who also wish to purchase the separate indoor TV antenna, the antenna and VQTV5 is bundled at a special launch price of S$198 (U.P. S$218).

You can purchase the device from ViewQwest’s e-store (https://e-store.viewqwest.com/) or during sign-ups for ViewQwest’s fibre broadband through online or various retail stores at:
