Verizon variant of the BlackBerry Priv could be on its way

Although the BlackBerry Priv is currently listed to be incompatible with Verizon and Sprint CDMA networks in the US, a leaked image suggests a Verizon variant of the Android slider could be in the works.

The image has been posted on Instagram by a user named apertura64 and seems to show the Priv running on Verizon’s network. While the image itself cannot be considered as absolute proof of the smartphone heading to Verizon, it does support recent reports that BlackBerry could launch a Verizon compatible variant of the Priv by early next year.

Verizon being the largest carrier in the US currently, it definitely seems likely that BlackBerry won’t prefer taking chances and miss out on the vast subscriber base of the carrier. After all, the Priv is the device that will decide BlackBerry’s future in the smartphone business. If it does achieve commercial success, we could more Android running smartphones from BlackBerry next year. If not, BlackBerry could end up exiting the smartphone market altogether.
