Ultimate Ears Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 Are More Durable and Convenient

Known best for their portable speakers, Ultimate Ears has released new versions of two of its series: the Boom 3 and Megaboom 3. Both have incremental updates that make them more durable and easier to use. Redesigned with an attractive two-toned colour scheme, the high-performance fabric on these speakers can also be found on motorcycle jackets and fire equipment. The speakers also have a new Magic Button on top for convenient music control.

The Magic Button allows for one-touch control from the speaker itself, without the need to fiddle with troublesome phone controls. It is currently compatible with Apple Music on iOS, and Deezer Premium on Android devices. More music services will be added subsequently.

In addition to a more durable fabric, both speakers now feature an IP67 waterproof, drop-proof and dustproof rating, which makes them an ideal companion on your wild adventures. If you’re eyeing a speaker for your regular poolside barbecues, the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 speakers float too, meaning you don’t have to dive in to fish out a ruined gadget.

An extended Bluetooth range to up to 150ft (46m) makes them great for backyard parties, enabling you to leave your phone in your pocket as you go around socialising. For a more permanent fixture, the speakers are compatible with the Ultimate Ears Power Up charging dock that allows you to wirelessly charge the speakers conveniently. A relocated USB port also allows you to leave the speakers upright for usage while juicing up.

On their own, the speakers have a battery life of up to 15 hours (Boom 3) and 20 hours (Megaboom 3), meaning even your longest parties can’t outlast these gadgets.

Like on previous iterations, the Megaboom 3 and Boom 3 speakers feature PartyUp, connecting up to 150 of all Boom and Megaboom devices in synchronised playback. Customised EQ and remote on/off controls are also available in a redesigned interface on the app.

All bring with them the powerful 360-degree sound they are known for, with clear vocals and instrumentation. The Boom 3 features two 38mm full-range drivers with two passive radiators that reach a maximum volume of 90dB. The Megaboom 3 has larger drivers at 50mm each, with two larger passive radiators.

Both speakers are available in four colour schemes: Night (Black), Sunset (Red), Lagoon (Blue), and Ultraviolet (Purple).

The Boom 3 retails at a SRP of SGD 299, and the Megaboom 3 can be had at SGD 329. The wireless Power Up dock retails at SGD 59. Availability in Singapore will commence from October 2018.
