Ubuntu Edge is here, and it dual-boots Android and Ubuntu

Canonical has taken to crowdsourcing site Indiegogo to raise money for its first smartphone, the Ubuntu Edge. It is looking to raise $32 million over the course of a month to build the device.

Canonical writes in their listing for Ubuntu Edge, “In the car industry, Formula 1 provides a commercial testbed for cutting-edge technologies. The Ubuntu Edge project aims to do the same for the mobile phone industry — to provide a low-volume, high-technology platform, crowdfunded by enthusiasts and mobile computing professionals.”

If the Ubuntu Edge does get made, it is going to be the fastest mobile ever made. Canonical is listing the device as having 4 GB of RAM, which is miles ahead of the 2 GB found in high-end devices today. Also, it is said that the device will be coated with sapphire crystal, which is one of the hardest materials known to man and is virtually un-scratch-able.
