Ubisoft has announced that its upcoming open-world stealth game Watch Dogs has been delayed until spring next year.

Watch Dogs was originally set to release on November 19th on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U, with a next-generation console version following soon after. A new launch date hasn’t been mentioned in Ubisoft’s blog post, but we’ll probably see the launch take place on all platforms simultaneously as a result of the delay.

“We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game,” the announcement states. “But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.”

Well, it’s certainly a disappointing announcement, but hopefully the delay will allow the developers to make the game as stable and bug-free as possible, and take better advantage of the improved hardware on the upcoming consoles.
