The FiiO M6 is a tiny touchscreen music player – much like the iPod Nano (7th Generation) of yore. The latest in line of FiiO’s M line of music players, the M6 is powered by an ESS Sabre 9018Q2C chip, which is a combination DAC and amp.
With compatibility and connectivity in mind, it is able to wireless play a wide variety of music file types over Bluetooth 4.2 with high resolution audio formats, including LDAC, HWA, aptX HD. For those in the Apple ecosystem, the M6 supports AAC and Bluetooth SBC for Airplay.
With Samsung’s Exynos 7270 chip on board, the M6 can even perform playback with music streaming services like Tidal, Spotify and Deezer and play music over DLNA and Wi-Fi.
It can double as a DAC and is able to support up to 192kHz/24bit decoding when connected to a computer, even functioning as a Bluetooth transmitter. On board, the ESS Sabre DAC/amp is able to draw on a larger power output from the author circuit, issuing 50% more power than the M7.
FiiO claims that the M6 has one of the cleanest outputs in its music player lineup, with a measured signal-to-noise ratio less than 188dB, and a noise floor less than 3μV – a trait those with in-ear monitors and sensitive earphones will notice.
Native DSD support up to DSD64/128 with support of DFF and DSF formats and multiple sampling rates give the M6 great flexibility in USB digital audio output. The M6 supports playback on multiple file types, including ISO, DFF, DSF, APE, WAV, FLAC, AIF, AIFF, M4A, WMA, OGG, AAC, ALAC, and MP3. Playlists can be formatted with CUE files or M3U or M3U8 files.
Constructed from CNC machined aluminium, the M6 is anodised and layered with 2.5D glass over its 3.2-inch touchscreen. With four buttons, the M6 aims for simplicity and ease of use to complement its diminutive form. A 1,200mAh battery means playback for more than 13 hours and a standby time for more than 26 days, and USB-C allows for decluttering and simplicity in our gadgetry.
The FiiO M6 music player is available at an RRP of SGD 279 (GST inclusive) at authorised dealers AV One, select outlets of Challenger, Connect IT, Stereo Electronics, E1 Personal Audio and Treoo.com
