The9 establishes Red 5 Singapore to operate game operations in Asia, including Firefall

This morning, China's online game developer and operator The9 has announced the establishment of Red 5 Singapore for conducting online game operations and research and development activities in Asia and other regions. Firefall, Red 5 Studio's first team-based action shooter game will be developed in localized versions for other countries aside North America and Europe.

Scheduled to launch in December 2011, Firefall is a free-to-play cooperative shooter set in a science fiction world, and claims to be the only co-op gameplay that supports hundreds of players at a time. The game offers various quests, missions, battlegrounds and even allows you to customize your gears and abilities. You can also choose to purchase optional aesthetic enhancements.

The newly established Red 5 Singapore will be responsible for the operation of Firefall in other countries aside from North America and Europe, and the focus will be on the Asian markets first. Red 5 Singapore will also develop localized versions of Firefall according to the progress of the game in each country in Asia region, and The9 and Red 5 Studios will support Red 5 Singapore with talent recruitment, capital investment, technology and other resources.

At the opening of the event, Jun Zhu, chief executive officer of The9, shared the story of a missed opportunity in 2001 with Mark Kern of Blizzard Entertainment on the purchase of Blizzard Entertainment's shares. And in 2008, Zhu met up with Kern who showed him the slides, game concepts and future development plans for Firefall. And this time, Zhu decided not to miss the second opportunity and both signed the agreements in Singapore.
