The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct gets new trailer & pre-order offers

Pre-orders have begun for Activision's new Walking Dead-themed first-person shooter, revealing exclusive retailer-specific pre-order incentives as well as a new gameplay trailer.

As Pre-orders for Activision's new The Walking Dead shooter begin, select retailers like GameStop and Amazon are continuing the trend of exclusive pre-order incentives. Wii U and PC gamers are left out of the offers, however–the incentives are only for Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game.

As of now, Gamestop's pre-order offer includes a "Herd Mode Challenge" DLC pack which allows gamers to take on wave after wave of zombies in a survival-themed frenzy of gunfire and hack-n'-slash action. Gamestop has also thrown in a fashionable zombie ear on a keychain, allowing gamers to sport their love for the undead wherever they go.

Below you can find Gamestop's official description for the Herd Mode Challenge DLC:

"The dead need no rest – will you? Take on endless waves of walkers, each more dangerous than the last in the all-new Herd Mode. Each wave of undead held off brings with it a new outbreak of hungry biters and new opportunities to rack up an even higher score.

How many frenzied flesh-eaters can you survive against before joining their ranks?"

Amazon pre-order incentive arms gamers with the "Walker Execution Pack", which includes a knife, kurki (just like Emile's!), hatchet and a machete to slice and dice biters with. Ammo is overrated anyway, and in Survival Instinct, it's quite scarce.

"Give yourself an edge (or five) with this unique weapon kit. The Amazon-exclusive "Walker Execution Pack" adds multiple melee options to your arsenal–with ammo scarce and the undead attracted to loud noises, a sharp, silent blade might just be your must trusted companion."

Additionally, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct now has an official description that touches upon the main elements and provides a summary of what gamers can expect out of the game:

"The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is a do-whatever-you-need-to-survive first-person action game that brings the deep, character-driven world of AMC's Emmy Award-winning TV series onto console gaming systems and the PC.

The game follows the mysterious, crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon, brought to life by TV series star Norman Reedus, alongside his overbearing brother Merle, voiced by Michael Rooker, on a haunting, unforgiving journey across the Georgia countryside.

Players will need to tread carefully on this desperate quest, scrounging for food, water, and ammunition to survive against nightmares both living and undead."

Revealed a good seven months ago, Survival Instinct is being developed by Terminal Reality and chronicles the early, grisly adventures of Daryl and Merle Dixon who trek across the zombie-ridden streets of the South and scramble to survive.

Survival Instinct is a standalone game and has no ties with Telltale's games, yet the upcoming fps does utilize a blend of emotional drama, gore-filled action and shocking horror which are staples of AMC's critically acclaimed television show.

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is slated for a release on March 29, 2013 for $49.99 ESRP on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC.
