DiskStation DS416slim

Synology today released the DS416slim, a new 4-bay NAS server for both home users as well as professionals.

The easily transportable NAS server can host up to four 2.5” hard drives, giving you a total of 8TB available data. The DS416slim’s longest side measures less than 15cm, which means it can fit anywhere quite easily. It is also quite light weight, weighing in at about 700 grams.

The DS416slim is powered by a dual-core CPU clocked at 1.0GHz, with a dedicated encryption engine and 512MB of DDR3 RAM. The DS416slim is capable of delivering read speeds up to 170.23 MB/s and write speeds of 77.62 MB/s with Link Aggregation enabled. When writing through a single Gigabit LAN, the NAS can hit speeds of up to 78.81 MB/s, which is an impressive 30% increase over the previous generation. Along with improved performance, the DS416slim is quite efficient as well, with average power consumption of only 17.17 watts during activity.
