Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida is a fan of the Oculus Rift

Shuhei Yoshida has tried the Kickstarted device and thinks it’s “great”.

The President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios has personally tried out the Virtual Reality device, the Oculus Rift. Speaking with Polygon, the Sony official stated that he’s tried the Kickstarter version with “a couple of guys in [their] studio.” Yoshida said he’s tried it and “loved it.”  Yoshida was also asked whether or not the Oculus headset could work with the PS4, Yoshida stated firmly, “No, it doesn’t.”

When asked about the possibility of Sony supporting the Rift, Yoshida simply said, “No comment.”  While Yoshida himself can easily enjoy the Oculus device, I imagine that stating support for the game-changing technology would put a few Sony stakeholders in an uncomfortable position. Last year, Sony released their own virtual reality headset, the Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer, to very little praise. The device was fairly bulky and difficult to manage for some users and Sony could be gearing up to implement the 3D Viewer for the next-generation of consoles.
