Sony Xperia Z3 Compact photographed again, specs said to include 1,080p screen, 3 GB RAM

A fresh Sony Xperia Z3 Compact-centric report has emerged out of Asia, clashing with earlier stories that claimed the upcoming compressed flagship will rehash most of Z1 Compact’s hardware instead of noticeably upping the ante.

A lot of disbelief has so far surrounded Xperia Z3/Z3 Compact rumors, which pointed at minor upgrades in store for the fall, and if a new leak is to be trusted, we were right on the money doubting previous alleged information spills.

According to this latest source, Z1 Compact’s sequel will step it up a notch, in which case the full-sized Z2’s follow-up should itself raise the bar. Focusing our attention on the claimed Z3 Compact, apparently that’s about to nearly contradict its moniker, measuring a hefty 4.6 inches in diagonal.

Not that anyone’s complaining. Oh, no, no, no, 4.6 inches sounds perfect, especially with Full HD crispness sprinkled on top. That’s right, the pixel count is tipped at 1,920 x 1,080, resulting in, wait for it, 478 ppi.

Now, LG’s G3 is safe at the very top of the pixel density charts, with 534 ppi, but the Xperia Z3 Compact is ready to make the top ten at least, behind only Quad HD handhelds. Including, we’re presuming, the Z3, which can’t possibly settle for 1,080p.

Moving on, a cutting-edge quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU is reportedly in charge of raw speed, with 3 gigs of RAM as a trusted sidekick. That’s up from S800 and 2 GB of memory on the Z1 Compact and, believe me, you’re going to notice the difference.

Based on fairly hazy live photos of an advanced Z3 Compact prototype, front-facing stereo speakers may be added in the high-end mix, while the 20.7 MP rear-facing camera really needs no introduction. Aesthetically, assuming the pics are legit, the next-gen mini-beast is all in all similar yet also different from its predecessor.

Clearly, the overall design language is the same, but the bezels are slimmer and, in a controversial move, Sony seems to have adopted more rounded corners. Who’s buying this rumor, and who thinks earlier gossip was closer to reality?
