Sony Xperia Z might soon be receiving the Google Edition treatment

Sony Xperia Z

After the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, looks like its Sony’s turn to have a Google Edition product in their portfolio. No prizes for guessing which phone will be selected for the job.

The Sony Xperia Z wowed crowds when it was first unveiled at CES earlier this year. Sadly, the phone had a disappointing display in terms of viewing angles and the software was not up to the mark. With Sony actively involved in the Android AOSP project, this report only talks of the obvious. Google might be working with Sony on releasing the Xperia Z Google Edition.

Internally (and externally), the Xperia Z will be the same water and dust resistant self. The real change here is the software. According to the report, the Xperia Z Google Edition should come in late, sometime in June. If this is true, it is entirely plausible for the device to come packing the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (or get a quick update if it launches with Android 4.2.2 JB).

Android Geeks reports that the Xperia Z would initially be a US exclusive and sell via Google Play Store for $599 unlocked.
