Sony Xperia C not a China exclusive, coming to India soon [Xperia Z Ultra as well]

Looks like the newly announced Sony Xperia C won’t be a China exclusive after all. A listing on the Sony Mobile India website confirms that the phone is headed to India.

The newly announced Sony Xperia C, the company’s first MediaTek enabled Smartphone, won’t be a China exclusive as was initially concluded. A listing on the Indian Sony Mobile website confirms that the budget phone is indeed heading towards the world’s 2nd largest populous country.

Sony Xperia C specifications:

  • 1.2 GHz MediaTek MT6589 Chipset
  • 5-inch qHD (960 x 540) TFT Display
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Dual SIM Support
  • 8 MP Exmor R Camera
  • Dimensions: 141.5 x 74.15 x 8.88 mm
  • Weight: 153 Grams
  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Despite being a value oriented device, Sony doesn’t compromise on the design and styling of the phone. We especially love the notification light strip at the bottom, a design element that the phone shares with the flagship Xperia ZL. With similar dimensions as the flagship Xperia Z Smartphone, the Xperia C’s only major downer is the low qHD (960 x 540) screen resolution. An HD display would have certainly put a smile across many more faces, but is perhaps too much to ask of a low-cost device coming from a big OEM.

India will be blessed with the Sony Xperia C sometime in July, with an MRP of about INR 17,999 (about $300)  and a street price falling in the INR 16,000 range. Excellent VFM (Value for money) if you ask me.

Sony Xperia Ultra

Additionally, the new monster phablet dubbed the Xperia Z Ultra will arrive shortly in the country, one again sometime in late July. The expected pricing is INR 40,999 ($710).
