Sony Honami spotted on benchmark site, Snapdragon 800 CPU and Full HD display confirmed

The Sony Honami has allegedly shown up at a benchmark site as the “Sony C6903,” confirming specs such as a Snapdragon 800 CPU, Full HD display, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

The Sony Honami is making yet another public appearance a few days after it was found visiting the FCC. A “Sony C903” has been found on benchmark site GFXBench, sporting a Snapdragon 800 processor and a Full HD display (with on-screen buttons), and considering there’s no other Sony device that’s expected to have the aforementioned specs, it’s a certainty that we’re looking at the Honami here.

The listing confirms the Honami to be running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with firmware version 14.1.G.1.406. The CPU seems to be underclocked to 2GHz on the test device, but we should see a 2.2-2.3GHz clock speed on the final product, unless Sony has found some reason (battery life, heating, etc.) to keep the frequencies below the possible maximum.

Even with the lowered clock speed, the Honami’s graphics performance is stunning and leaves devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One trailing far behind, probably because the beastly Adreno 330 GPU on the Snapdragon 800 is operating at full capacity.

The Honami is supposed to have mostly the same hardware as the Xperia Z Ultra, though with a more sensible screen size (5-inch) and a 20-megapixel CyberShot camera, which is supposed to be the highlight and offer image quality better than anything we’ve seen on Android so far. An October launch is all but confirmed, and an official announcement should take place at IFA in September.
