Sony debuts the Xperia Tablet Z in Singapore (updated with prices)

First revealed at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will finally go on sale in Singapore from June 6.

With a trend that shows an increasing demand for tablet devices, the Xperia Tablet Z is Sony’s latest attempt to gain a foothold in a market largely dominated by the likes of Samsung and Apple. At just under 7mm, the Japanese electronics maker is certainly serious about design. The Tablet Z inherits the same design cues from its mobile phone cousin, the Sony Xperia Z, boasting the same slim profile and glass construction; the result is a tablet that is not only slim, but light, weighing in at just 495g — that’s about 150g lighter than the 4th generation iPad, impressive.

Besides a sleek design, the slate also features a 10-inch display with a whopping 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, making it one of the rare 10-inch tablets with a display pixel density higher than 200. Under the hood, you will find a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Software-wise, the Tablet Z runs on a slightly dated Android 4.1 Jelly Bean — I would have liked to see 4.2 instead considering the time of its entry into the market so let’s hope Sony is working on that.

The Tablet Z will be available in both LTE-equipped as well as Wi-Fi only flavors and will come in black and white.
