Sony confirms Android 4.3 for some Xperia handsets, HTC and Samsung still ‘reviewing’ plans

HTC, Samsung, and Sony have spoken out on their plans to update devices to Android 4.3, the latest version of the OS that Google officially unveiled at its “breakfast with Sundar Pichai” event.

It’s been almost a day since Google officially announced the latest flavor of Jelly Bean, Android 4.3, and Sony has become the first manufacturer to confirm devices that will be receiving an update to the latest version of Android.

For now, Android 4.3 is confirmed for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra, though considering the fact that all of them are high-end devices that were launched in recent times, the list isn’t exactly surprising. Sony is also looking at taking some Android 4.1 directly to 4.3, while promising to be more timely about the update process after listening to user criticism over the slow Android 4.1 update rollout.

Meanwhile, HTC and Samsung had nothing interesting to say; both companies are currently “reviewing” Android 4.3 and refrained from mentioning a list of handsets that are in line for the update. Rumors have hinted at Samsung possibly skipping Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy S3 and Note II and jumping straight to 4.3, but it seems owners of devices of either manufacturer have a bit of a wait in store to find out whether they’ll be lucky enough to join the Android 4.3 party.
