In yet another smartphone release at MWC 2018, Sony has announced its new flagship models, the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. With these devices, Sony aims to create the most immersive entertainment experiences for users with improvements in camera, display and audio technology.
The Xperia XZ2 comes with an extended 5.7” HDR Full HD plus 18:9 display, front-facing stereo speakers (with S-Force Front Surround), and Motion Eye camera which allows for the world’s first 4K HDR movie recording using a smartphone. Its all-new Dynamic Vibration System enables users to ‘feel’ their viewing experience as it analyses audio data and provides haptic feedback. To add on to the fun, the 3D Creator application allows users to take 3D scans of their faces, then show off their creativity in the 3D avatar world.
The Xperia XZ2 Compact has similar features as its bigger brother but comes with a 5” display instead.
One of the most obvious changes in Sony’s design can be seen in the relocation of its fingerprint sensor – traditionally mounted on the side for natural unlocking in the hand or on the table – to one mounted on the back.
The smartphones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, which allows users to experience connection speeds of up to 1.2Gbps.
Both models ship with Android 8.0 Oreo, and are expected to be available in Singapore from April 2018.
