Something For Everyone: Nokia Introduces Five New Phones

The increasing ubiquity of mobile phones has led to Mobile World Congress (MWC) to be one of the hottest events in the tech calendar. HMD Global, the Finnish company otherwise known as the lord and saviour of the legendary Nokia series, returns with a series of Nokia phones targetted at a wide range of users. These include Android smartphones – the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, New Nokia 6, and the Nokia 1. For the nostalgic, or the purists: the Nokia 8110, refreshed for 2018.

Known for excellent build quality, affordability, and exceptional ease-of-use, HMD Global’s new generation of Nokia phones promise to carry on the Finnish’s giant’s legacy.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco: Design Meets Processing Power

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is an ultra-compact powerhouse, continuing in Nikon’s rich design heritage. With a precision-crafted stainless steel frame, the 2mm-thin Nikon 8 Sirocco fuses strength and beauty seamlessly. A curved edge-to-edge pOLED 2k 5.5-inch display features slim bezels and moulded body curves to create an ultra-compact profile. Its stainless steel frame is 2.5x stronger than 6000 series aluminium and its 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is robust enough to shun scratches and knocks.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco has on-board enhanced Zeiss optics and Dual-Sight. Dual rear cameras combine an impressive low-light performance with its 12-megapixel wide-angle primary shooter with a secondary 13-megapixel sensor with 2x optical zoom. Pro Camera mode allows you to take full manual control over your images.

The Nokia 7 Plus enters as Nokia’s 2018 flagship, marrying legendary Zeiss optics and innovative imaging algorithms to capture true-to-life photos. With Dual Sight, dual rear sensor, the Nokia 7 Plus combines an ultra-sensitive 12-megapixel wide-angle primary shooter for exceptional low-light performance with a secondary 13-megapixel unit that captures 2x optical zoom. the Nokia 7 Plus is also optimised to prolong the powerful 3800 mAh battery, promising a 2-day battery life unheard of since a decade ago.

The New Nokia 6 builds on the award-winning success of its predecessor, with more powerful performance in a more compact and durable chassis. 60% faster than its previous iteration, it now offers Dual-Sight and Zeiss optics in the camera department, along with USB-C fast-charging, a sleeker screen-to-body ratio. It also features Nokia spatial audio and a stock Android Oreo experience.

Replete with 4G network support, the Nokia 8110 returns with its iconic slider (read: banana) design. An intuitive, tactile interface with T9 Predictive Text enables you to text incognito under the meeting table. It also means you can elegantly flip out the slider to answer calls, and dramatically end calls by slapping it shut.

App store support means access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter. It also syncs with Outlook and Gmail. With a Qualcomm 205 processor, these essentials will perform reliably at your fingertips.

And yes, it comes with a revamped version of Snake.

Pricing and availability

No exact date and prices were provided for Singapore or any specific market.

Nokia 8 Sirocco will be available from early April for a global average retail price of EUR749 (USD924/SGD1216).

Nokia 7 Plus will be available from early April for a global average retail price of EUR399 (USD492/SGD648).

New Nokia 6 will be available from early April for a global average retail price of EUR279 (USD344/SGD453).
Nokia 1 will be available from early April for a global average retail price of EUR69 (USD85/SGD112). Xpress-on covers, sold separately, are available from EUR6.50 (USD7.99/SGD10.50) in Azure, Grey, Yellow and Pink.
Nokia 8110 will be available from May for a global average retail price of €79 (USD97/SGD128).
All prices exclude taxes and subsidies.
