Samsung’s new Exynos SoC is not the 5433

The new SoC from the Korean giant has an integrated 4G LTE baseband, but there are no hardware wins as of yet.

Samsung made the official announcement of its new Exynos SoC Friday, but it wasn’t the Exynos 5433 that many were expecting.

Instead Samsung announced the Exynos ModAP, a quad-core SoC built on the HKMG 28nm process that includes an integrated LTE modem which supports the Cat 4 LTE as well as legacy 2G and 3G. The chip also has a built-in image sensor that can support shooting stills at 8MP and recording video at 1080p.

Integrating a modem directly onto the die is a big achievement for Samsung, and makes the Exynos series more competitive with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon line of SoCs.

Samsung hasn’t announced any hardware wins for the Exynos ModAP, but expect it to be in the Note 4 which is sure to launch in the fall.
