Samsung’s first round smartwatch to debut alongside Galaxy Note 5 in September

SAMSUNG-ORBIS

Samsung has long been rumored to be working on a round smartwatch. Codenamed ‘Orbis’, the smartwatch will now be launching in September according to a report published by SamMobile.

SamMobile claims to have heard from its sources that the ‘Orbis’ or Gear A will be launched alongside the Galaxy Note 5 in September this year. Just like last year, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Note 5 at IFA in Berlin. Last year, Samsung announced the Gear S smartwatch barely a few days before the IFA event, so there is a chance we might see the Gear A get announced even before IFA kicks off.

One of the main reasons behind the decision to delay the launch of the smartwatch to September is the good response the Apple Watch is getting. Launching the Gear A soon would mean taking it head-on, reducing the chances of Orbis A being a success. It will also give Samsung more time to refine the product and make it highly competitive against the Apple Watch.
