Samsung showcased its latest OEM M.2 SSDs, the SM961 and the PM961 at the company’s annual SSD Forum held in Japan recently.
Both the SM961 as well as the PM961 utilize 3D/V-NAND memory and feature Samsung’s new Polaris controller. The SM961 is capable of sequential read speeds up to 3,200 MB/s and write speeds up to 1,800 MB/s. Random read speeds go up to 450K IOPS while random write speeds can hit 400K IOPS. The SM961 drives will be available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants.
The PM961 drives will also be available in the same 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities but will offer slightly lower performance. They are capable of maximum sequential read speeds of up to 3,000 MB/s and write speeds of 1,150 MB/s. Random read speeds are claimed to be up to 360K IOPS while random writes can reach a maximum of up to 280K IOPS.
