Samsung announced the Portable SSD T3 today, a palm-sized external solid state drive (SSD) that offers multi-terabyte (TB) storage capacity,
The T3 utilizes Samsung’s proprietary Vertical NAND (V-NAND), SSD TurboWrite technology, and the latest USB 3.1 Type-C connection to deliver advanced performance. Samsung claims the T3 can deliver blazing-fast file transfers thanks to high sequential read and write speeds of up to 450MB/s, which is roughly four times higher than what traditional external HDDs can offer. It uses the exFAT file system and is compatible with multiple USB supported devices including computers with Windows or Mac OS and Android smartphones or tablets.
Not only is the Portable SSD T3 compact and lightweight, but its shock-resistant metal case and internal frame makes it highly durable as well. Samsung claims the drive can withstand up to 1500G of force and can survive a drop of up to two meters. An integrated Thermal Guard is also included, which helps prevent overheating in extreme temperatures. The drive comes with a three-year limited warranty.
The T3 will be available in four storage capacities – 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Samsung will begin selling it in the US, China, Korea, and select European nations starting next month. It is expected to become available in other markets in the near future. Pricing has not been announced yet.
