Samsung Galaxy S5 ‘Prime’ and ‘Standard’ flavors seemingly confirmed in benchmarks

There’s still a lot of mystery hovering over Samsung’s soon-to-be-announced Galaxy S5, but it’s a near certainty two (very) different models will go official at the Mobile World Congress later this month.

Samsung Galaxy S5

Full HD or Quad HD, aka 2K resolution? Quad-core Snapdragon 800 power or octa-core Exynos? 2 or 3 GB RAM? As implausible as it might sound, no one knew the answers to these questions in relation to Galaxy S5 specs with a measly two weeks to go until “Unpacked 5”.

We had our suspicions, based on the conflicting words of numerous seemingly reliable tipsters and so-called insiders, but at the same time doubts were casting their shadows on the out-of-control rumor bonanza.

Yet the solution to the puzzle was so simple, and under our noses all along. It’s not an either/or situation. It’s both Full and Quad HD, S800 and Exynos, 2 and 3 GB RAM. Because as some sources suggested, Samsung has “Standard” and “Prime” GS5 variations in the pipeline.

Galaxy S5 Prime

Of course, we can’t be certain of that yet, but AnTuTu just brought to light an SM-G900R4 and SM-G900H and boy, do they look nothing alike hardware-wise. The former, believed to designate a US Cellular-bound S5, is a mind-boggling 2K display-toting, 3 GB RAM-packing beast.

Meanwhile, the latter, intended for European markets, sounds a little on the underwhelming side of things, with FHD resolution, a yet to be released 32-bit 8-core Exynos 5422 chip beneath the hood, and only 2 GB RAM.

The bad news is not even the “Prime” is so unbelievably fast and furious as some depicted it of late, allegedly coming with a Snapdragon 800 CPU (the MSM8974AC model) instead of the highly anticipated S805.

Galaxy S5 Standard

So maybe the information listed by AnTuTu isn’t accurate? Or it is, but for pre-released prototypes with unfinished hardware. It’s always a possibility, though the on-board Android 4.4 KitKat (for both) signals pretty advanced work.

By the by, the two S5 editions are apparently fitted with rear 16 MP cameras, one has 16 GB built-in storage and the other 32 gigs. Quite the mixed bags of nuts, huh?
