Samsung Galaxy S4 Active stars in sneak peek video, comes with dual-core CPU after all?

The still unofficial Samsung Galaxy S4 Active stars in a short sneak peek video which confirms its existence once and for all. However, the processor uncertainty continues, with the phone's handler claiming there's a dual-core chip beneath the thing's hood and not a quad-core, as suspected before.

A lot of virtual ink has been spilled for what feels like months now on Samsung’s alleged Active, Mini and Zoom versions of the Galaxy S4, but at long last the pieces of the puzzle seem to be falling into place. At least as far as the GS4 Active is concerned, the big guy that has graciously smiled for the camera yesterday and now stars in its first ever homemade video.

The clip runs for only about 40 seconds, which is not enough to make us fall hopelessly in love with the Active. But it’s a very nice start, as we’re once again getting a glimpse of a very refined, distinguished and somewhat retro-looking device with a massive screen, but ultra-thin bezels.

We have no reason to believe we’re dealing with a fake here, but it’s likely a pre-production prototype, so don’t be too shocked if the commercial S4 Active will look slightly different. On the whole though it’s probably too late for Samsung to be making drastic changes. Ergo I’d expect the 5-incher to rock the same snazzy red back, classic black front and physical home, back and menu buttons once it’s out in stores.

Unfortunately, the S4 Active handler in the clip neglects to flip the phone and show us more of that sexy back, but that’s just another reason to want to see it in the flesh, right? As for the thing’s specs, you can say the plot thickens starting today, as we’re now hearing there could be a dual-core CPU ticking beneath the hood and not Galaxy S4’s quad-core Snapdragon 600.

The odd thing is one of yesterday’s pics was a screenshot of an AnTuTu benchmark where the processor was clearly listed as quad-core and the GPU as an Adreno 320.

The even weirder thing is the S4 Active handler in today’s clip seems to be a little confused, saying one thing in the video (that the phone packs a dual-core S4 Plus) and writing something else entirely in the description (that there’s a dual-core S4 Pro inside the device).

If you ask me, there’s no way Samsung will be equipping such a good-looking slab of silicon with a modest dual-core chip, but a quad-core S4 Pro might be in contention. In any case, the 8 MP rear camera seems to be a certainty, as does the Full HD screen, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and protection against water and dust. Now how about making it all official, Sammy?
