Samsung Galaxy S4 Active with Snapdragon 800 CPU headed to Korea next month

A Galaxy S4 Active variant powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor is in the news again, with a new report claiming the upgraded model will be launching in Korea next month.

The report claims that Samsung is deliberately delaying the launch of the updated Galaxy S4 Active – which was made an appearance in benchmarks in early August – so that sales of the Galaxy Note 3 aren’t affected. That’s probably just speculation though, as there won’t be many who in their right minds that would opt for an S4 Active, no matter how rugged or water-resistant, over the company’s newest and arguably best phablet.

Naturally, as a result of that Snapdragon 800 CPU, the upgraded device should support LTE-A networks in the country, with speeds of up to 150mbps. Apart from that the specs should remain the same, including a 5-inch 1080p LCD display, 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear shooter, a full suite of connectivity options including NFC, IP67 certification, and a 2,600mAh battery. It will likely run on Android 4.3 out of the box, or get it soon after launch once the update to the latest version of the OS rolls out to the standard Galaxy S4.

The Snapdragon 800-powered S4 Active is slated only for a Korean launch at this point, but don’t be surprised if an international variant shows up later on.
