Samsung is merely confirming what has been known for some time.
After numerous signs pointing at a February 21 launch for the Galaxy S7, including a rather conclusive leak over the weekend, Samsung has finally made it official that its next flagship will be going official a day before MWC kicks off. The company is sending out press invites for the event, and the teaser video suggests the company will do a virtual reality version of the whole show as well.
A VR event isn’t new – OnePlus did the same with the OnePlus 2 last year, and given Samsung’s focus on virtual reality, it is only natural for the Korean giant to make sure one of its most anticipated flagships ever gets the VR treatment. It might even be a highlight of the show, as everything about the Galaxy S7 itself is pretty much out in the open thanks to the plethora of leaks that have been talked about on the internet in recent weeks.
A couple of those leaks have revealed that the S7 could go on sale on March 11, less than three weeks after the official unveiling. A regular 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 and a 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 edge are expected to be launched, with specs similar to 2015 Galaxy flagships but with features like faster processors, a microSD slot, large batteries, water-resistance, and even possibly a display with force touch technology similar to 3D Touch from Apple.
