Samsung announces the world’s first UFS memory cards

Samsung UFS

Samsung today introduced the industry’s first removable memory card lineup based on the JEDEC Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 1.0 Card Extension Standard. These cards are intended to be used in DSLRs, 3D VR cameras, action cams, and drones.

The UFS memory cards will be available in 32, 64, 128, and 256GB capacities, they offer a major upgrade in transfer speeds when compared to conventional memory cards available on the market right now. The 256GB UFS card is claimed to deliver more than five times faster sequential read speeds when compared to a typical microSD card at 530 MB/s. That’s essentially similar to speeds achieved by most SATA SSDs. When it comes to sequential writing speeds, the 256GB UFS card achieves 170 MB/s, which is twice as high as the current fastest microSD card. Random read and write speeds go up to 40,000 IOPS and 35,000 IOPS, respectively.
