Samsung and StarHub Announce Launch Of Galaxy Beam

Samsung Galaxy Beam

Yesterday, Samsung and StarHub have jointly announced the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Beam, an Android smartphone that claims to be the world’s first with built-in projector and can project up to 50-inches.

“In the market, with tremendous smartphone adoption rate like Singapore, the Android OS is one of the fastest growing smartphone platform here today. We are delighted to be the first mobile operator globally to launch and offer the Samsung Galaxy Beam in Singapore. The smart projector phone (when we sell it) will be loaded with our mobile TV app, so users can really enjoy our premium 24 StarHub TV channels. And with the projector capability, you can really share the TV channels with friends and colleagues,” says Ng Long Shyang, Head of Sales, StarHub.

Sung-Hyun Moon, Managing Director of Samsung Asia, talks about the Galaxy Beam as a combination of work and entertainment on a smartphone.

“First unveiled earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress, the Galaxy Beam also captured many eyes at CommunicAsia 2010. Today, for the very first time in the world, the Galaxy Beam is available in Singapore. Singapore is an advanced market for Samsung, and we will always try to have global first launch in Singapore because you are the most important customers to us,” says Moon.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam is quite chunky compared to some phones on the market, but that’s only because it has built-in projector. Like Samsung Galaxy S, it sports a bright Super AMOLED touch screen that provides good display of images and videos.

On the left we find the projector focus controls, volume control and mini USB connector.

The right of the phone hold the power/lock, camera mode and projector on/off buttons, and 3.5mm audio jack.

The microSD and SIM card slot are inside the battery compartment. Unlike other phones that use 1300mAh lithium-ion battery, this one is using a 1800mAh. According to Samsung, the battery life can last approximately four hours with projection of videos and more with powerpoint presentation slides.

Needless to say, the Samsung Galaxy Beam is exclusive only on StarHub and price starts from S$0. Check out the news release on the next page for more info..
