Samsung aims to launch foldable smartphones next year

samsung

According to a fresh report coming out of Korea, Samsung is all set to launch its first foldable smartphones by next year.

Korean media cites a Samsung Display official who mentioned that the company believes the commercialization of foldable smartphones will be possible next year. Samsung has been working on this tech since quite some time now and had demoed a foldable display to business partners behind closed doors at CES 2014.

HIS had also recently reported that it expects the first foldable tablets to be available by the end of the year. While this doesn’t exactly match the reports from Korean media, it does confirm that Samsung has made a lot of progress with the technology and is almost ready to mass produce the first foldable mobile devices.

The same report also mentions that LG has finished development of transparent displays and is ready to mass produce transparent display panels if and when there is enough demand for such panels. LG too will be taking on Samsung with its own lineup of foldable smartphones, in the year 2017.
