The next big jump in gaming immersion is just around the corner, folks. After the Oculus Rift, we’ve now got another virtual reality thingamajig to control games with. Check it out after the jump.
We have already discussed the gadget in an earlier post. The Virtuix Omni Natural Motion Interface – as it is called – is a sort of a three-dimensional treadmill. You can use it along with the Oculus Rift to completely immerse yourself in the game world. Not only can you look around in 3D thanks to the Oculus Rift, but you can also move in 3D.
Besides improving gaming engagement, using the treadmill to walk and run around in game worlds is only good for your health. For people like me who play games for hours upon hours each day, the Omni will drastically improve their lifestyle.
The Omni doesn’t have many games or simulations available for it yet, but any PC game that takes input for movement via keyboard can connect with it in limited form. Once developers start using the SDK (which comes with the $499 package) to optimize games for it in combination with the Oculus Rift, it will make for one hell of a gaming setup.
For $499, you will get the following items:
- Virtuix Omni platform
- Support harness
- Pair of shoes
- Virtuix Omni tracking software and hardware
- 1 year warranty
