Pre-order of Spark Tablet with KDE Plasma Active begins

Unlike the Android tablets on the market, the Spark tablet uses KDE Plasma Active, a version of Linux which claims to be suitable for use with small displays.

The Spark tablet, which is based on the Zenithink C71 Android tablet, features clean, simple lines, sturdy body and good workmanship. It is equipped with 1GHz ARM processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage and a 7-inch capacitive multitouch LCD display (800×480 pixels resolution). It adopts the Mer mobile-optimized OS and KDE Plasma Active for the graphical user interface, and comes with two USB 2.0 ports and a HDMI port. It also supports 802.11 b/g wireless LAN and 3G with a USB dongle.

In a blog post Aaron Seigo, a KDE developer, explained that currently the only part not yet available to the community about some hardware drivers. Seigo said that over time, the community would be able to develop their own drivers, replacing the current one at a time, thereby making it fully open the project, even if it is not a simple goal to achieve. Pre-orders for Spark tablet has already begun at Make Play Live website, and the price is just a mere 200 euros (or US$265).
