Plextor’s M5S 128GB SSD hits our benchmarking tables today, promising reliability and good value. How does the legendary ODD manufacturer fares in the SSD market?
Plextor M5S
Most enthusiasts would remember Plextor from the days when optical disk drive (ODD) speed and quality actually mattered, as their products were considered to be top-of-the-line at the time. As optical drives are nowadays unimportant, even obsolete for some users, Plextor had to diversify and decided to jump into the SSD bandwagon. The company has been producing SSDs ever since 2010 but, as Plextor has never been fond of excessive marketing, it is no wonder that more than half of the computer users nowadays do not even know that they produce SSDs. Today we are having a look at the M5S, the latest value-oriented offering of the company, sporting a Marvell controller and synchronous memory.
