PlayStation 4 sweeps the floor at E3, official specs sheet, PS Eye, PS4 UI and more

The entire world knows by now that Sony swept the floor with their epic PlayStation 4 conference, thanks to hitting all the key points that almost every gamer world-over kept praying for.

Sony PlayStation 4

Phew, what an epic night. Microsoft certainly impressed with their Xbox One presentation. Meanwhile, Apple brought out an iOS version that even Android lovers liked, but iOS fans felt cheated (move on fellas). And then came Sony with their Knight in black armor (the PS4, in case you were wondering). With the tempting $399 price tag already revealed, let’s have a look at some of the other features of the PS4.

A short promo video towards the end of Sony’s E3 press conference showed how the PS4 UI will handle various elements such as the gameplay video sharing feature, chatting with friends and multi-tasking within the box.

The PS4 is region-free

SCE’s Shuhei Yoshida, in a tweet earlier today, confirmed that the Sony PlayStation 4 is region-free. People buying games from different regions no longer have to fear getting locked out of using the disc on their console (phew). This is a major area where Sony struck a strong chord with its fans and worldwide gamers.

PS4 HDD is upgradable

Sony has confirmed a rather important specification of their PS4 related to storage. Users should already not have many problems with the 500 GB HDD that the PS4 will ship with by default, but Sony in their good heart leaves the option open to gamers to replace or upgrade the HDD to a bigger (capacity) one.

Here’s the official spec sheet of the PS4:

PS4 Eye, DualShock controller to sell for $59

In a surprising move, Sony decided to leave out the PS Eye kit from the official bundle, leaving the add-on as a separate purchase that will cost gamers $59. In contrast, all Microsoft Xbox One units sell with the new and upgraded Kinect 2.0 sensor, but then again the console sells for an entire $100 extra and the extra hardware will only be used with select titles that support the feature.

A Best Buy listing (along with word from Sony) confirms that the price of an extra DualShock PS4 controller will cost $59. The controller packs a 1000 mAh battery and weighs in at 210 grams.
