Pantech launches Vega No.6 and Vega Q smartphones in Taiwan, could America be next?

After leaping to the number two spot in Korean smartphone sales ranks, it’s only natural to see Pantech get more bullish on its prospects outside the homeland. Two of the company’s newest gadgets are thus making their way to Taiwan, which could be the first step towards a global charge.

The Vega No. 6 is the more impressive fellow of the duo, but it will of course also be the pricier one, at 19,900 TWD, or $662. Sounds like a lot for an Android device that’s not manufactured by your “usual suspects”, but the No. 6 is in no way inferior to, say, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2.

Au contraire, as Pantech’s flagship sports a sensational (and humongous) 5.9-inch IPS panel with Full HD resolution. And it packs a massive 3,140 mAh battery. And it comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow, as well as a 13 MP rear camera, quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of on-board storage and microSD support for expanding said internal memory with an additional 2 TB (!!!).

As for the Vega Q, the other Pantech phone ready for its Taiwan debut and first trip outside Korea, that’s more of a mid-ranger. A Vega No.6 Mini, if you will. It costs 11,400 TWD ($380), sports a 4.3-inch HD screen, 8 MP rear cam, dual-core S4 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and 16 GB of internal storage space.

Pantech Vega Q

Pretty strong bang for the buck for this Vega Q as well, especially if you add in the equation the little guy’s water and dust protection.

Now, what are the chances of the Vega No.6/Vega Q duo becoming available on a wide scale in Europe and/or America soon? Not great, but Pantech’s US brand recognition is certainly growing stronger, courtesy of devices like Verizon’s Perception and AT&T’s Discover, so who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky. On the old continent too.

Hopefully, Pantech is hearing this and taking note – people all around the world want your phones.
