OS X Lion scores over a million downloads in first day

We all know that Apple is extremely popular with consumers when it comes to mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and portable media players, but have you ever wondered if the same could be said for its Mac OS X operating system for its line of desktop and notebook computers? Apparently, more than a million people seem to think so, if the latest news from Apple is of any indication.

Are you a Mac user? Well, if you are, this latest piece of news from Apple will probably be just the kind of information you need to brighten up your Friday and reinforce the perception that the Cupertino giant is well on its way to making major inroads into a market that was (and still is) dominated by Microsoft. Apparently, the latest version of the Mac OS X operating system, which is also known as Lion, has scored over a million digital downloads on the first day of its release, and that fact has clearly had Apple excited enough to issue an official announcement to boast about the successful adoption of what it calls is its "most advanced desktop operating system".

According to Engadget, this figure means a lot to Apple, and for good reason. After all, one million registered copies of an operating system being sold on the first day of its release is indeed a huge achievement, considering how Apple has never been able to boast of such numbers for any other OS X release in its history.

“Lion is off to a great start, user reviews and industry reaction have been fantastic,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Lion is a huge step forward, it’s not only packed with innovative features but it’s incredibly easy for users to update their Macs to the best OS we’ve ever made.”
