OPPO Find X Comes To Singapore: First Impressions & Review

Oppo’s 2018 latest addition to the Find series fuses technology and art in a phone that’s breaking smartphone trends on all fronts. At the Oppo Find X Singapore launch at the STPI art gallery, we had a first look at the brand new phone that has got everyone talking.

With a 98.3% screen-to-body ratio, this elegant phone is virtually all screen, no bezel. At 3.4mm, it sports the narrowest border amongst Android phones. The arched phone screen is a 6.4-inch OLED panel, with guarantees of an unprecedented viewing experience. The glass-backed flagship is available in two gorgeous colours, Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue.

Oppo has always been known to deliver quality cameras, especially for selfies. With the Find X, Oppo is taking it to the next level in innovation, bringing to users a stealth pop-up 3D camera. With the 25 MP front camera and the 16MP+20MP dual rear camera, your photos will never be short on quality.

The headline feature on the Oppo Find X is the slide-out panel that houses the cameras and other sensors. It seamlessly blends into the frame to ensure the whole exterior of the phone is sleek and uniform.

Launching the camera app or waking the phone with face unlock set-up will prompt the panel to slide out, in a smooth and silent motion that takes about 0.6s. Furthermore, you need not fret if your phone takes a drop with the camera out, the phone’s auto recovery mechanism will kick in and slide the camera back in to prevent any damage.

The Find X is also the first Android phone to adopt the 3D Structured Light Face Recognition technology. This will offer you a higher level of security than fingerprints by projecting and then sensing 15000 infrared dots on your face to build an accurate 3D model for more secure and more convenient access.

The AI Screen Recognition function on the Oppo Find X also acts as your mini photography consultant. It can identify over 20 photography scenarios of photography and over 800 scenario combinations. Capturing anything is way easier than before when you don’t have to do manual settings.

Using the aforementioned 3D light tech, your camera can recommend a custom beautifying adjustment that best suits your face. You can even personally tinker with your various facial parts like your eyes, cheekbones or chin to enhance your features in one of the most realistic implementations I’ve seen on a camera.

Of course, by being able to sense the 3D structure of your face, Oppo throws in Omoji, a 3D cartoon avatar function that we’ve seen on plenty of smartphones now. You can create your own avatar or use any of the default cute silly ones and send them as videos or GIFs via your favourite messaging app.

Oppo’s proprietary ColorOS 5.1 is integrated with the AI engine of the Snapdragon 845 CPU, enabling the operating system to better understand your needs for a more interactive experience.

Google Assistant is also built-in with an automatic adjustment for your microphone to reduce ambient noise and to increase the activation rate. The Oppo Find X is equipped with the third generation Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP AI Snapdragon 845 mobile platform making it quicker and more intelligent.

With SuperVOOC flash charging on board, expect to get from 1 to 100 percent in just 35 minutes with the OPPO Find X. For the first time, SuperVOOC flash charge allows the charge your phone accepts to exceed 50W. This redefines current charging speeds and will push your experience to the next level. However, this feature will only be implemented on the Find X model with 8GM RAM + 256GB and the Find X Automobili Lamborghini edition.

Speaking of the Lamborghini edition, this all black phone is made from the same carbon fiber used in Lamborghini’s supercars. This gives a magnificent textured feel to the phone.

The base model of the OPPO Find X starts at 128GB will be available online and in stores from 11 August onwards. Coming to Singapore in Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue, the OPPO Find X will be available for pre-order from 1 August onwards beginning at a retail price of SGD 1,199.

The version of the OPPO Find X with a larger capacity of 256GB and SuperVOOC flash charge will be available in Singapore from a later date at a price of SGD 1,399.
