A new rumor out of Korea claims the next OnePlus flagship smartphone is going to be called the OnePlus 5. Some of you might be aware that the number 4 is considered unlucky in China as well as a few other Asian cultures. This is probably why the company will not be going with the OnePlus 4 moniker.
In terms of design, the OnePlus 5 will apparently be quite different from the current OnePlus 3 and 3T models. Firstly, the metal unibody build will apparently be replaced by a glass build similar to flagship Samsung Galaxy handsets. The report suggests that a Ceramic build could be a possibility as well. The other major change will the shift to a dual-edge display, similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge. It is very much likely that OnePlus will be sourcing the dual-curved edge AMOLED panel from Samsung.
The other major upgrade will be in the camera department. Instead of a 16MP primary camera, the OnePlus 5 will feature a 23MP resolution camera at the back, possibly sourced from Sony. OnePlus will also make significant improvements in the battery life department, by switching to a larger 4000mAh capacity battery. Rest of the rumored specifications include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 825 octa-core chipset, a 16MP selfie camera, USB Type-C port, and up to 256GB internal memory.
We expect the OnePlus 5 to be made official in the month of June this year.
