Many of us expected the OnePlus 3T to launch with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box. Unfortunately, all the rumors claiming the same turned out to be a bust, as the smartphone was made official earlier this week with the now outdated Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, an update to Android 7.0 is apparently coming soon.
OnePlus confirmed to the folks over at Android Authority that both the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T will be getting updated to Android 7.0 Nougat by the end of the year, i.e. sometime next month. Going forward, OnePlus plans to release software updates for both devices at the same time, as it considers the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T as being “two versions of the same phone”. This comes as great relief for all the OnePlus 3 owners out there, as OnePlus will not be prioritizing the OnePlus 3T over the OnePlus 3 when it comes to software support. However, OnePlus 3T owners will be missing out on the Android Nougat update that will be rolled out of OnePlus 3 owners this month.
In case you haven’t heard yet, the OnePlus 3 has now been discontinued in the US and European markets. It will continue to be sold in a few markets for the time being, although it does seem quite possible that the smartphone will be discontinued in all markets once the current stocks deplete.
