OLO – World’s First Smartphone 3D Printer

For this week’s ‘Crowdfunding Campaign Of The Week’, we feature OLO, the world’s first ever Smartphone 3D printer that costs less than that pair of sneakers you got your eye on. OLO taps on the one device almost everyone has – your Smartphone – and transforms it into a 3D printer, without the hassle and having to have explicit knowledge of 3D printing technology.

The technology behind the OLO is that it uses the light from your Smartphone to quite literally print your chosen 3D designs, which work alongside the use of OLO’s custom resin. Compatible with Android, iOS and Windows, the OLO is able to work with any flat screen Smartphone with large screen sizes of up to 5.8”. There is a maximum print volume of 76 x 128 x 52mm which is large enough to 3D print small figurines.

OLO doesn’t require you to be a graphic designer or a certified 3D printing extraordinaire to operate it, it prides itself in being almost foolproof. There are a couple of ways to get your 3D printing projects started, either by the use of 3D scanning software like Autodesk 123D Catch, use one of the preloaded 3D templates or design one of your own with a 3D printing software.

Did we also mention that OLO is portable and perfect for those on-the-go? It does not need the use of any power plug since it is powered by 4 x AA batteries, weighs just 780g and measures 172 x 115 x 148mm.

Perhaps one of the most interesting Kickstarter campaigns in a while, OLO is a game changer when it comes to the realm of 3D printing. Aside from just being affordable, it opens up doors to those who are new to 3D printing since it is easy to operate and almost fool-proof.
