With our two DirectX 10 games out of the way, we move on to DirectX 11, which forms the majority of our test suite.
Colin McRae DiRT 2 is the sequel to the popular Colin McRae DiRT.
Our in-game settings are:
- 8x multisample anti-aliasing, and
- details set to the Ultra preset
The GeForce GTX 580 sent the rest packing in DiRT 2; not only was it roughly 20% faster than the GTX 480, it disposed the dual-GPU Radeon HD 5970 too.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is the third instalment of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. survival first-person shooter series, and is also the sequel to Shadow of Chernobyl.
We ran Call of Pripyat with:
- DirectX 11 rendering mode,
- detail level set of Ultra,
- tesellation enabled,
- 4x multisample anti-aliasing, and
- high quality space screen ambient occulsion
Like in Resident Evil 5, the GeForce GTX 580 matches up very well against the dual-GPU Radeon HD 5970, and surpasses the latter at 2560 x 1600.
Comparing against the soon-to-be-replaced Radeon HD 5870, the GTX 580 pulls a staggering 50% lead.
