Nokia N9 MeeGo smartphone to retail in Singapore

At this year's CommunicAsia, Nokia showcased their N9 smartphone, the company's first device based on the MeeGo ""Harmattan" mobile operating system. And today, the Finnish company officially announced the product in Singapore. Yes, the Nokia N9 will be retailing from all three telco operators in the coming weeks

Nokia has announced the N9 smartphone which runs the MeeGo mobile operating system. If you have read our CommunicAsia coverage, the smartphone features a 3.9-inch AMOLED display with scratch-resistant, beautiful curved Corning Gorilla glass. Made of a single piece of polycarbonate, the N9 has no home or other physical buttons on the front; Nokia claims that the home screen is replaced by a simple swipe gesture – to exit to the home screen, just swipe from the edge of the display. The phone also offers three home views of  the user interface for fast access to your most common tasks – using apps, keeping up-to-date with notifications and social networks, and switching between activities.

The Nokia N9 is equipped with an 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss autofocus sensor, wide-angle lens, supports high definition video capture and large lens aperture that provides solid camera performance even in low lighting conditions. For users who drive, the smartphone can serve as a great navigation tool. It features turn-by-turn drive and walk navigation with voice guidance in Maps. You can also use the dedicated Drive app to navigate to your destination easily. The Nokia N9 also incorporates Dolby Digital Plus decoding and Dolby Headphone post-processing, and with its 16:9 widescreen display, you are treated to superb multimedia experience. It also has Near Field Communication (NFC) that lets you share images and videos between devices by touching them; you can also pair it with Bluetooth accessories like the new NFC-enabled Nokia Play 360° wireless music speaker.

Available in black, cyan and magenta, and storage options of 16GB and 64GB, the Nokia N9 will be retailing in the coming weeks at S$799 and S$899 for the 16GB and 64GB respectively. All three operators in Singapore, Singtel, Starhub and M1, will also be carrying the phone with attractive data plans.
