Next-generation Kindle Fire render showcases design refresh

@evleaks has tweeted an image of what could be the entry-level model in Amazon’s new Kindle lineup.

Last week, benchmarks and images of the next-gen Kindle Fire HD leaked online, which mentioned that the 8.9-inch device would feature a 2,560 x 1600 resolution and come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 SoC. Amazon also lowered the prices of its current-gen Kindle devices, indicating that a refresh is imminent.

According to rumors, we will see three new Kindles this year: a 7-inch and an 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD and a Kindle Fire that will be an entry-level device. The image tweeted by @evleaks today shows off the redesigned Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire does not come with a front-facing camera, which is included in the costlier Fire HD models.

The third-generation Fire features the same bezel size and includes a redesigned Kindle interface, which is likely based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Unlike Barnes and Noble’s announcement that the Google Play Store will be available on their tablets, users on Kindles have to be content with Amazon’s own offering for buying games and other digital content.

Amazon is set to officially unveil the tablets sometime next month.
